MICHAEL KENDRICK'S
BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Michael is a renowned leader in human services and community and has worked both as an international consultant and speaker in many countries throughout the world, including North America, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and Central America.

As a Canadian and former resident of British Columbia, Michael has a special interest in British Columbia. Having consulted here for almost thirty years, he is well-known as a friend to people with a disability and to their families. Over the past three years, Michael has been actively involved in consultation with the British Columbia Interim Authority of CLBC and, as such, he offers a knowledgeable and unique perspective regarding the current transition within community-living.

In addition to his masters and doctoral studies in social work and sociology, Michael has worked as the Assistant Commissioner for Program Development (Massachusetts), the Director for the Institute for Leadership and Community Development, and the Director of the Safeguards Project.

In high demand as a public speaker and trainer, Michael also serves as an evaluator, consultant, and advisor to advocates, governments, agencies and community groups.

He regularly presents on leadership, service quality, the creation of safeguards for vulnerable people, alternatives to bureaucracy and reform within human services.

As well, his areas of expertise and passionate interest include personalized approaches to supporting people, social inclusion, change, innovation, values, advocacy, and of particular interest to this conference, the role of individual persons and small groups in creating advances.

Michael has spent most of his life working in the community living, mental health and aged care fields. He regularly teaches at various universities in North America and abroad.
